Sorry folks. I'll have to post these through YouTube, so stay tuned relatives. Something has happened to Posterous and they're no longer allowing larger video uploads from an actual computer. You should shortly see a link on Facebook pointing to the videos on YouTube. Keep an eye out.

Shayla's School's Winter Program 2012
Here are a few photos and videos (look to the next post) that I took tonight. These poor kids are so tired and so cute in their performance! They are kind of half performing and singing the songs and half playing with each other. Shayla was so tired when she was done it was all we could do to get her home and in bed before she was out like a light!

Have We Finally Arrived to The Golden Years?
Ha! I know what you're thinking. You thought that I meant Shayla's Mom and I, didn't you? Well, that's not what I'm thinking of at all. Actually, I was speaking of Shayla herself.
You see Shayla is now 5 1/2 going on 10 and she is really starting to be a lot of fun. She has always been 'fun', but now she is really starting to get her personal groove on. The little person that she is, is really starting to come into sharp focus. She and I have been having some great conversations lately, which I have really come to cherish. She is becoming more and more 'able bodied' and is beginning to think for herself more and more. Our dialogue has been getting progressively more hilarious as the weeks have ticked by. We laugh together almost daily now. It's great. I'm really looking forward to the times ahead. She's 'Got Me', I can tell you that! If she keeps playing me right--and it's a good thing that she's only 5--when she asks for those car/truck keys, I'd likely hand them over without so much as a fuss. There's no denying Human Politics, even Inter-Family ones, and if you know how to play it or sing it or bribe your way into 'it', then the sound or feeling of that to the recipient will likely look, feel, and taste like the sweet honey of human relationships that we all love so much. The wink of the eyes, the nod of the head, and the flutter of the eyelashes that's so the classic form of sweet manipulation hasn't found it's way into the annals of the great human books of poetry for nothing, no sir. There's a darn good reason why those antics are there. ...Because they work. My daughter who's 5 and a half already knows about it. I'm in t-r-o-u-b-l-e. :)

With Kids, Clean Up is Constant!
This is especially true when you have sleep-overs. It's actually rather challenging to stay ahead of the curve. They make the mess significantly faster than you can clean it up (; it's in their job description). This is completely supported by science and yet still remains a mystery to this very day. Ask any local parental scientist and they will confirm it.
These pictures may look mild. Trust me, they are. This is after significant clean-up has already been well underway. I couldn't post the originals. That would be asking too much from our viewers. :)

Shayla's First Sleepover At Our House
What fun this has been and still is!! Shayla has already had several sleep-overs at friends' and relatives' houses before, but last night was the first sleep-over of Shayla's that we, her parents, have hosted. This has been fun. Yes, it's true that it is a lot of work, but it's fun to watch them have such a good time together. That being said, we had a 'blank' itinerary which is obviously the easiest that it will ever get. I stand in awe at the planning and am exhausted at the thought of all the energy that must have gone into the Week Long, Multi-Kid Extravaganza that went on at Nana and Risa's house in Houston earlier this Summer! What I can say is that it's fun watching them having and building those first real friendships and relationships. Listening to their conversations is a hoot! They're so funny! It also gives one a little insight into your own relationships to listen to them go through the undulations of their own. Very interesting and insightful!

The Joy of Being a Dad: 'On Call' Phrases
One of them is most certainly called 'Assembly Required'. Ha ha! We respond to the call with tools in hand and demanding a clear space on the living room floor. I love it! It warms my heart and gives me an instant audience--my 5 year old daughter Shayla--who is way more than eager to hand me screws and such when I need them. Awesome and Fun!

Frisbee Throwing Shots
Yeah, it's true. I'm just a dad looking for excuses to snap photos anytime and anywhere. :)
